25歲的喬安娜·邁爾斯（薩拉·米歇爾·蓋拉）是一家運輸公司的銷售代理，雖然事業(yè)有成，但私生活卻一團(tuán)糟--不僅與父親（薩姆·謝帕德）疏遠(yuǎn)，剛分手的前男友個性偏執(zhí)、最近更是跟蹤她不放，而且因為性格強硬好勝，喬安娜甚至沒有幾個知心好友。
不知從何時開始，喬安娜開始夜夜被噩夢驚醒，在夢中，她親眼目睹一樁殘忍的謀殺案，但被殺的女子她卻從沒見過。一夜復(fù)一夜，她漸漸覺出兇手是個殘忍無比的連環(huán)殺手，而令人驚恐無比的影像甚至在日常生活中也對她纏繞不放，她開始出現(xiàn)幻覺、偏頭痛，不斷見到甚至感覺到異象。
時時覺得自己的人生已經(jīng)失控的喬安娜決定反擊，于是順著噩夢的指引找到了被殺女子的故鄉(xiāng)--德克薩斯州一個小鎮(zhèn)。到了小鎮(zhèn)之后，喬安娜更是覺得與那里有著說不清道不明的聯(lián)系。被埋葬的秘密即將被揭開，15年前小鎮(zhèn)上一場血腥的謀殺似乎與她有著千絲萬縷的聯(lián)系，而喬安娜很可能就是兇手的下一個目標(biāo)……
